FAQ

Naturopathic medicine is a specialized healthcare field that combines the rigors of modern science with the time-tested wisdom of nature. Naturopathic doctors (NDs) focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease by stimulating and supporting the body’s innate capacity to heal. This holistic approach emphasizes personalized care and natural treatments.

The definition of naturopathic medicine was established by the Select Committee on the Definition of Naturopathic Medicine, co-chaired by Snider P. and Zeff J. The committee's position paper, "Definition of Naturopathic Medicine: AANP House Of Delegates Position Paper," was published in Rippling River, OR, in 1989. It outlines the foundational principles and practices of naturopathic medicine as recognized by the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP).

During your first visit, Dr. Lara will conduct a comprehensive health assessment to understand your unique needs. This initial visit involves a detailed review of your health history, lifestyle, and current concerns. The goal is to identify potential underlying causes of your symptoms and develop a tailored treatment plan to address them.

Dr. Lara has special interests in several key areas of health, including food intolerance, autoimmune conditions, diet and digestion, blood sugar balancing, healthy aging, mental wellbeing, natural hormone balancing, healthy heart, and blood pressure and cholesterol management. Her comprehensive approach ensures that each patient's unique needs are met through personalized care and targeted treatments.

Naturopathic doctors are educated in the same basic sciences as medical doctors (MDs). They attend accredited naturopathic medical schools for five years, where they study both conventional medical sciences and alternative therapies. Like MDs, NDs must pass rigorous professional board exams before being licensed to practice medicine in their state.

Naturopathic doctors support the human body’s natural capacity to heal itself by using treatments that stimulate and enhance these processes. The goal is to restore health in mind, body, and spirit through natural and non-invasive methods. This approach includes personalized treatment plans that may involve nutrition, lifestyle changes, and natural therapies.
